These data has to be sent to the cloud for processing and deriving insights. Unfortunately, cloud computing can introduce latency issues because of the distance between users and the data centers. Edge computing moves computing closer to the data sources to minimize the distance that data has to travel, while still retaining the centralized nature of cloud computing.

Edge computing is the process of bringing computing as close to the source of data as possible in order to reduce latency and bandwidth use. In other words, edge computing is simplifying / reducing the processes in the cloud and moving them to local areas where the data is captured. Moving computation to the network’s edge minimizes the distance that data has to travel.
Will edge computing replace cloud computing?
No, the reason being the necessity of cloud computing for bigger data analysis. Edge computing works hand in hand with cloud computing. It is more of a compliment to the process.
